one of the most fun elements of a wedding to photograph is the bouquet. everyone gets so excited when it arrives. i love the moment when the florist hands the bouquet to the bride and everyone oooh’s and aaah’s. this year there was a bumper crop of amazing bouquets to snap up. here are a dozen of our favorites….

first row: stoneblossom, hanna floral design, artistic blossoms
second row: robin hollow farm, flowers jubilee, flowers by semia
third row: stoneblossom, sayles livingston, stoneblossom
fourth row: flowers by semia, la bella rose, sayles livingston

ask the snappers…

dear snappers,

i’m at a loss as to how to wear my hair at my wedding. are their any hair styles that you think photograph better than others? i want to look as glamorous as all the other brides on your blog!

thanks,

un – coiffed in connecticut

dear coiffed,

it’s true! we do have the most glamorous brides. don’t worry- you too can be a starlet. there are so many styles to choose from it can be kind of overwhelming. we can say from experience that it’s important to be true to yourself. if you never ever ever wear your hair up, then don’t pick your wedding day to do it for the first time. we guarantee you won’t like the way you look in the photos, even if you are glamorous. if you are a bohemian-chic messy hair type  then don’t opt for slick smooth styles on your wedding day.  finally, consider the weather. wearing your hair down in spring or in fall can make perfect sense while swept back styles are more forgiving in the heat and humidity of the summer. take a look below at some of our favorite wedding hair stylings from the last two seasons. see you on the runway!

cheers,

the snappers

romantic beach hair – this is our lovely bride tori from 2010. i love the twisted and tucked style. it’s so romantic and pretty. tori had a very formal rosecliff wedding, but i thought this undone hairdo suited her perfectly. she’s looked as amazing posing on the beach as she did twirling around the ballroom floor. the flower is a beautiful touch and the veil tucked in low is a nice compromise for ladies who don’t want their veil around their face.

smooth low bun with striking flower accent -  graceful franny could really pull off this beautiful summery look. she didn’t wear a veil, but added an element of interest with this gorgeous bloom tucked behind her ear. franny had a preppy summer wedding in a field near the ocean. she looked absolutely perfect all day thanks to the fresh, smooth style.

smooth side pony with flower and low veil – erica got married on nantucket. i love the classic, sporty, playful style she chose for her hair.  the side pony shows off her beautiful locks without hiding her delicate collarbone and the neckline of her gown.

hollywood glam- jolie was married this november at the 4 seasons in boston. we didn’t plan on taking too many photos outside and we had a nice dry fall day. her hair is naturally thick with great body so it takes a curl really well. she planned her wedding around a vintage hollywood theme, so this style was perfect for her.

beachy chic updo- jennifer was married at the castle hill lighthouse overlooking the ocean and the newport bridge. her hair is lovely in a loosely pulled back “messy” chignon. this style has such great texture while still looking soft and feminine. it looks great swept back of her face, but with a face like hers you can’t really go wrong.

looped side bun – we are big fans of any hair that is styled to the side. meg’s adorable side bun is perfect for he summer bellemer wedding. we went traipsing all over newport for photos. meg got in and out of the trolley more than a few times without so much as a hair out of place.

soft springy curls- roxanne’s wedding was in the early spring while the weather was still cool. we had planned outside photos but at the last minute it down poured. she looks so soft and beautiful with her cascading curls. i especially love the shorter pieces that frame her face.

sleek chignon- maria is a classic, ala grace kelly. nuff’ said.

vintage glam side bun with a twist- kaelyn’s side bun with curls and twists was the perfect choice for her winter vintage glam wedding. the bridesmaids wore variations of the side bun and side pony. said it before, but we can’t get enough of anything on the side. fries come on the side and so does ice cream… see what we mean?

super soft and sexy – elayna manages to look sweet, demure, sexy, and sassy all rolled into one. i’m not sure how she did it but her hair definitely has something to do with it.

side pony with curl and bling- erica sported the sporty fresh flowered pony above. katie is lovely in a polished sparkly side pony. when i saw her with this hair do it literally took my breath away. doesn’t she do a lovely impression of an estee lauder ad?

look who’s a covergirl…

our beautiful 2011 bride andrea, that’s who! we are proud have our photo of andrea on the cover of the new issue of Block Island Weddings. we love going to block island for weddings and fancy ourselves official block island photographers. the block island wedding show also chose to use one of our images for their promotional materials this year {top right photo}. we are so excited, we have 6 weddings booked on block island this year! woo hoo! a special snap shout out to abby, alex, bryn, meghan, shannon, and joy, our 2012 bi brides. also a big thank you to andrea for being so darned fabulous and frankly, photogenic. i knew she was cover girl material when i first laid eyes on her.

and just for fun, here’s a pretty shot i took while vacationing on block island last year. this is the north lighthouse at the tip of the island where block island sound meets the atlantic ocean, it’s a bit of a hike {literally} but worth the trip.

inspiration…white

crisp, clean, soft, romantic. white is intimate. white is sparkly. white can be a blank slate or the whole canvas.

groom’s homework

snap-a-phobia: the groom’s secret fear of look “de-masculated” in the engagement and wedding photos.

scene… a steamy bathroom. a man stands alone wiping the last bit of shaving cream from his face. he looks down at his clothes on the chair, lovingly picked out by his fiancee. dread steals over him like a cold sweat. he dresses quickly, filled with anxious reservation and wonders, … “what will those crazy snapgirls ask me to do? i don’t want to look lame. i don’t want my friends to bust my chops. i don’t want to have to smash all the computers at work so my co workers can’t see me on the snap blog looking ridiculous! will they {gasp!} ask me to skip?”

scene… the snapgirls are beginning their photo shoot, they glance over at the groom. he is ringing his hands. sweat is beading up on his forehead despite the air conditioned room they are in. he’s pale, underside of a fish pale… “poor thing,” they think… “he has a bad case of snap-a-phobia.”

sure laugh, but seriously we ladies cannot relate to the horror that is having your photo taken and oh, looking all in love in the photos while still holding onto a shred of masculinity. things can go terribly wrong very quickly, a foot turned the wrong way, a hand placed in the wrong spot, a tilted head, and bam! your less a man than you were 5 minutes ago.

the good news is… snap has been making men look manly since 2004! we love men! we want them to look manly and we make darned sure they do. of course it helps to have a pretty lady draped on their shoulder, but when one isn’t available at the moment, we still make them look like men! we’ll gently coax them into man posing and before you know it they are actually having fun. but not too much fun, not like skipping down the street fun or anything. because that’s totally not manly.

here’s some examples of our famous “man posing. ” all just regular, nice guys. no modeling experience required.

disclaimer: none of the men above were “de-masculated” in any way during the making of these photographs. they all left the photo shoots happy and with their manhood intact {so to speak}.
